Journey to Create the Enchanted Forest Dragon of Brookline Mural ?????

Here’s my test run using the scribble grid approach to map out the dragon artwork for the wall.

1. I covered the canvas with doodles.
2. Next I took a picture of the canvas.
3. In Photoshop I superimposed the artwork onto the canvas. Here I faded the art so both the doodles and the dragon are visible at the same time.
4. Using this overlaid image I painted the art onto the canvas using the doodles as guides.

It’s tricky but I think it could work! ?

Journey to Create the Enchanted Forest Dragon of Brookline

Got more paint samples. This is how I’m figuring out my color palette (before buying quarts and gallons) as well as getting a feel for working with house paints.

I’ll be teaching myself how to use the spray paints once it gets warmer outside.

Journey to Create the Enchanted Forest Dragon of Brookline

This is the artwork I will be painting on the 35 foot long wall this spring in the town where I grew up.

The concept speaks to the importance of our connection to nature; wild and untamed nature. Also offering a reminder to continue to cultivate our imagination. And last but not least, it is intended to provide the community with vibrant beauty year round!

Stay tuned for more behind scenes preparatory updates!

Journey to Create the Enchanted Forest Dragon of Brookline

On this quest to create the mural this spring there are several aspects to figure out before I start painting the wall.

One important choice to be decided upon is what kind of support structure will make the most sense?

Using a ladder would be the cheapest, but on its own it would require a lot of climbing up and down, and also doesn’t provide a lot of reach.

Scaffolding is another option. This can provide plenty of reach, but would block the wall when I want to step back and look at it. Also, rental can be costly.

A small platform with wheels is called a Bakers Scaffolding. This provides pretty good coverage and can be less costly to rent.

Lifts provide excellent coverage, but they tend to be expensive, which entails working quickly. They also require a large footprint at the location.

My goal is to be able to spend as much time as needed to make the artwork as beautiful as it can be!
