Journey to Create the Enchanted Forest Dragon of Brookline Mural
Day 1
Finally got the approval to get started. Turned out my day to wash the wall also coincided with the repaving of Beacon Street :/
Day 2
Jerry rigged sheets to the scaffolding for a little shelter from the dust and wind. Primed the wall in four and a half hours. (I’m only allowed to work at the site from 10 to 4.) Relieved to have pulled it off!

Curious when I’ll start painting the mural? So am I!
The scaffolding is all set up. Brushes, rollers, drop cloths, spray paint, and a dozen gallons of paint are all ready to go. The committee and the property owner have signed off for me to begin.
The wall is next to a preschool that was recently informed of the project. I’m patiently waiting for them to be ok with me getting started. I’m trying to not be anxious about the time I’ll have before the arrival of the scalding summer sun!
Thanks for your support on this journey. It’s nearly time to begin painting!

In my original design I adorned the foliage with purple roses. I realized that roses are too domesticated for the image, which is more about embracing nature’s healthy wildness. Here’s a look at my studies of different kinds of flowers that I’ll be painting in the final artwork.

Expanding my visual vocabulary with spray paint. While I’m planning on only using these in certain areas, I’d like to get somewhat comfortable with the soft gradations they can provide. We’ll see; I may use them more or may use them not at all. Either way, learning a new technique is fun ?
