Journey to Create the Enchanted Forest Dragon of Brookline Mural

Every day on my bike ride to and from the mural I’m captivated by leaves. I’m studying their shapes, their sheens, and their myriad shades of green.

The toughest things to get right are that which we’re the most familiar. I’m fully immersed in the foliage of my dragon and determined to bring nature to life authentically.

It’s been a busy week!

Making progress ?

Thursday:

Got the Scribble grid up! I was tempted by the idea of using AR goggles, but decided I would rather use my skills instead of technology. These letters and numbers let me map the artwork on the wall… ?

Friday:

Got the dragon outlined! Used spray paint for the lines and started filling in the body with brushed house paint. Felt great to finally get the artwork on the wall. Back to it again tomorrow!

Sunday:

Continuing to fill in the big shapes today and get the base layer all set. Grateful for the added boost of assistance this morning from my new artist friend Kara @karathepeach ?? She’s also the friendliest face behind the counter at Cafe Fixe next door.

Wednesday:

I knew that working outside would be considerably different than in my cozy studio, but it really took some getting used to. All of the loud cars and trucks going by, the bombastic kids in the playground, and people passing by who want to acknowledge what I’m doing. It’s a lot. But it’s also super rewarding to be doing something so visible and well received. I’m getting the hang of it
