In 1985 sociologist Neil Postman slammed tv news & commercials as toxic for mental health. Did anybody listen? I have never watched the news on tv because as a child I realized the format is more concerned with keeping viewer’s attention above all else. Even though it’s 27 years old, I recommend reading Amusing Ourselves to Death for a reminder in how to be an informed human being without succumbing to this particular form of manipulative capitalism.
