Attended a lecture by Gary Panter this morning. He told a story about living in LA, where one day headed out the door he discovered someone’s Mustang parked right in front of his driveway, completely blocking it. He couldn’t use his car for 48 hours. So Gary creates a large stencil and spray-glues the word ASSHOLE along the doors. Invisible at first, over a short period of time exhaust and dirt would pile up to reveal the declaration. The culprit would never be known. Brilliant.
last fall steven heller gave a lecture to my class in the illustration department at sva. afterwards we talked for a bit. fortunate for us he liked our group enough to envite us over to his small, private lectures on saturdays at the graphic design department, which he runs. a handful of us took him up on the offer. his talks on design history are amazing and guest speakers are as varied as they are interesting. they can be heard through the department website here.
