Since the doors have reopened the community has been as supportive of the shop, as the space has been a source of comfort to the community. Speaking from my own regular visits, Booksmith is a special place.
I wanted to create an image that would capture an enthusiasm for summertime, the return of vibrant nature, the joy of summer reading, and show our support for Black lives.Â
The Portland protester who faced off with military police last month wearing nothing but a beanie and mask bowled me over with her bravery. She said in a recent interview “Nobody has weapons here. I just wanted them to see what they’re shooting at.”Â
I painted this to commemorate her and keep the support for Black Lives Matter going strong. The fight for equality continues. ✊ðŸ¼âœŠðŸ½âœŠðŸ¾âœŠðŸ¿
